I've been reading about the declaration of independence. It is an interpretation of the document as not really a declaration, but a rationalization for the decision of some of the colonists to separate themselves from England. It's amazing how much thought the congress put into drafting this excuse, which in the end they based on principles they thought to be "self-evident." The document still makes an awful lot of sense to me, and I wish the people in government spent more time reflecting upon the ideas that gave birth to this country.
